Psychology Assessment Adelaide
Intellectual Assessment
An intellectual assessment (also known as a cognitive assessment) provides insight into a young person’s overall thinking and learning abilities. It helps identify their cognitive strengths and areas where they may need extra support.
Our intellectual assessments include:
-
An in-depth diagnostic interview with parents/carers
-
Information gathered from the child’s educators
-
A formal, standardised cognitive assessment
-
An assessment of adaptive functioning may be included if additional information is required
-
Personalised feedback and a comprehensive written report
Why have this assessment?
An intellectual assessment can help teachers and families understand how a child learns best. The results can inform an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) or Negotiated Education Plan (NEP). The assessment can also identify an intellectual disability or giftedness. Information is often used to support NDIS applications or educational planning.
Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Assessment
An ADHD assessment may be recommended when a child has ongoing difficulties with attention, organisation, impulsivity, or regulating activity levels. This assessment helps determine whether ADHD is present and explores any cognitive factors that may affect learning or daily functioning.
Our ADHD assessments include:
-
An in-depth diagnostic interview with parents/carers
-
Information gathered from educators
-
A formal, standardised ADHD assessment
-
An intellectual/cognitive assessment
-
Personalised feedback and a comprehensive written report
Why have this assessment?
An ADHD assessment provides families with a clear understanding of their child’s attention, behaviour, and thinking skills. The report includes practical strategies to support focus, organisation, and participation at home and school.
Please note: Psychologists cannot prescribe or recommend medication. If required, this will need to be discussed with a Paediatrician or Child Psychiatrist.
Learning Assessment
A learning assessment (also known as a psychoeducational assessment) looks at both a child’s thinking skills and academic abilities. It helps us understand how a child learns, solves problems, and performs in key areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics.
Our learning assessments include:
-
An in-depth diagnostic interview with parents/carers
-
Information gathered from the child’s educators
-
Formal, standardised literacy and numeracy assessments
-
An intellectual/cognitive assessment
-
Personalised feedback and a comprehensive written report
Why have this assessment?
A learning assessment can identify Specific Learning Disorders such as dyslexia, dysgraphia or dyscalculia. The report outlines your child’s unique learning profile and provides clear, evidence-based recommendations to support their progress at school and home. This information can also guide intervention planning for teachers, Speech Pathologists, or tutors.
